SAFETY TIPS

Buy and sell with confidence

Almost every deal on Adsvercity goes smoothly because both people are neighbours. These few habits keep it that way, and they take seconds to follow.

Meet in public

Choose a busy spot in daylight and bring somebody with you when you can.

See it before you pay

Inspect the item, test it if it switches on and only then hand over money.

Keep chat on the site

Message through Adsvercity so there is a record if anything goes wrong.

Trust your gut

If a deal feels rushed, odd or too cheap, walk away. There will be another one.

IF YOU ARE BUYING

Six habits of a careful buyer

IF YOU ARE SELLING

Protect yourself while you sell

Your listing is public but your personal details do not have to be. Keep it that way until you decide otherwise.

Guard your details

Keep your home address and phone number out of the listing text. Buyers can reach you through our messages instead.

Count the money

Check notes before the item leaves your hands. For anything expensive, meet inside a bank and deposit it there and then.

Careful at your door

If a buyer must collect from home, have somebody with you, meet them outside and never leave a stranger alone indoors.

Honest photos win

Show the marks and the wear as well as the good side. Buyers who know what to expect do not argue at the meeting.

KNOW THE TRICKS

Five scams worth recognising

These are the ones we see most often. Recognise the shape of them and they stop working.

A buyer sends more than the asking price by mistake, then asks you to refund the difference. The original payment is reversed later and you are left short. Never refund an overpayment. Ask them to cancel it and pay the correct amount.

Somebody asks you to send a deposit so nobody else takes the item, often with a story about being out of town. Once the money is sent they disappear. Pay only in person once you have seen what you are buying.

A seller insists on shipping through their own courier and sends a fake tracking email asking for a release fee. Adsvercity is for local deals. If somebody cannot meet you nearby, be very cautious about sending anything.

Somebody says they will send a code to prove you are real, then asks you to read it back. That code belongs to your own account or phone number and handing it over lets them take control. Never share a code with anybody.

Pressure is the oldest tool there is. Somebody swears the price only stands for the next ten minutes, or that three other people are on their way. A genuine neighbour will let you think it over. Slow the conversation down and see who stays.

WHERE TO MEET

Good places to hand something over

Somewhere busy, lit and covered by cameras. Most of these are open late and cost nothing to use.

Seen something that feels wrong?

Tell us and we will look at it quickly. Reports stay private, and you never have to explain yourself to the other person.
